Some packaging consists of both a main component and integrated components. By definition, an integrated component is a packaging component that cannot easily be removed from the main component during transport or waste sorting.
A jam jar is an example of packaging that consists of a main component (glass) and an integrated component (label). This product serves as the basis for the examples in the following guide.
According to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency's regulation, packaging consisting of a main component and an integrated component must be environmentally graded as a whole. Therefore, the integrated component must be linked to the main component in GS1Trade Packaging.
From the dashboard, click on the Packaging Master Data tab at the top of the page.
Click the Create button and select Create New Component.
Fill in the required fields and click Save.
Next, create the integrated component (in this example, the label).
Follow the same process as before: click Create New Component, fill in the fields, and click Save.
Now, go back to the main component (the glass jar).
Click Edit by the Integrated Components tab.
Select the integrated component from the list and drag it into the empty field.
Under the Join type field, choose from the dropdown menu how the integrated component is attached to the main component.
Click Save.
Your main component has now been enriched with an integrated component and is ready for environmental grading.
